i was wondering how other artists' feel on this subject? Are you staying in your comfort zone, afraid or financially unable to explore your full potential? do you wish to spread your wings and try different mediums or ideas? i have stopped drawing with ballpoint pen as it has become too familiar, it wasn't testing me anymore. i have some digital art, canvases and pencil drawings on the go at the moment. ballpoint pen drawing is incredibly easy for me, it is the first thing i reach for when to sketch out an idea, i can achieve the effects i love in just a few strokes. too easy, and this is a very uncomfortable feeling for me. i smoke so much now that i was staring at all the ash in the tray, why not muck around with that for a bit hahaha. apparently coffee is the best for archival quality, not so sure about the ash .
also, ideas. where do you get them or are you influenced by others' work too much? early on you can see i was influenced by tim burton and that is very very obvious. i have grown as an artist and especially my surreal drawings come from i know not where!!! but i don't fight it, i adore the ridiculous in life so to have that expression bubble up from deep inside me is a gift i never turn away from. i think too much influence stifles creativity, and that takes us back to how comfortable you are in your art. people have the same old stuff in their galleries, are you wanting to grow and discover new ways to express yourself? my art is a reflection of me, psycho, erratic, strange etc. i try to survive life from one minute to the next, i go off the rails often. i would love to get my hands on a cannon (like aussie artist Pro Hart) and let loose with it!!!! the painting effects would be so cool, i'd love to 'paint' a house in this way. my sisters better watch out!!!!
i fave all types of art on here, i see so much great art that it keeps me going on my very darkest of days. next week FunkyFresh190 is coming up to stay with me, i call her my little sis because we have become exactly that. sisters. i will be teaching her to draw and hopefully this will open up new possibilities with her art. she may not need much teaching though, she taught herself to the play the piano brilliantly!!!! i have found kindred spirits on here, they themselves as well as their art inspire me daily. i have also lost weight, over a dress size so that is making me happy. in the coming weeks i will be featuring these artists in journals dedicated wholly to themselves, they deserve nothing less. problem is to pick out which art to feature from their galleries!!!! it is going to be fun. so watch out!!!! :thumb182963521:

I personally cannot afford to explore so I use my art classes wisely. I truly do enjoy exploring new techniques, but that makes me indefinite when it comes to a specific style. My ideas come from various places, but the one place that influenced the most was my dreams (mostly the scary ones) I don't have a specific person who influences me.
I really enjoy browsing different styles of art because I can usually learn a bit of something from other artists. Use of color or composition, maybe the artist's use of texture. Even with styles I am not particularly drawn to, like anime, I find that there is sometimes a facet of it that can help me step up my game.
I do have a bad habit of switching channels when it comes to artistic pursuits. For a while I explored leather working, precious metal clay, stained glass, fused glass & rock carving. I am probably forgetting some, but those are the main ones. I'm trying to focus on painting and not let my artistic ADD derail me.
Ah, I'm awful at coloring digitally. That's something I plan to work at once I get Photoshop.
